10 Steps to Accelerate Your Spiritual Growth This Year (Without Losing Your Mind)

I wasn’t planning to accelerate my spiritual growth this year.

Honestly? I was just trying to not yell at my Wi-Fi router.

But somewhere between a random Tuesday meltdown and me staring at the ceiling at 2:13 AM (why is it always 2:13??), I realized something felt… off. Not broken, just… misaligned. Like wearing someone else’s glasses. Everything looked slightly wrong.

You ever feel like that?

Like life is happening, but you’re kinda… buffering.

Anyway, I didn’t suddenly become some enlightened monk or anything. I still forget where I put my keys. I still eat junk food when I’m stressed. But I did stumble into a few things that genuinely helped me grow spiritually—without turning into a robot who wakes up at 5 AM and drinks celery water.

So yeah. Here are the 10 steps that actually worked for me. Not perfect. Not pretty. But real.

1. Admit You’re Kinda Lost (It’s Fine, Seriously)

I know, great start. Super inspiring.

But hear me out.

The moment I stopped pretending I had everything figured out? That’s when things shifted. Before that, I was basically spiritually “cosplaying” — reading quotes, nodding along, doing absolutely nothing with them.

One night I literally said out loud:
“Okay… I don’t know what I’m doing.”

And weirdly? That felt like progress.

Because growth doesn’t start with answers. It starts with honesty. Messy, uncomfortable honesty.

2. Stop Overcomplicating “Spirituality”

At one point, I thought spiritual growth meant:

  • Waking up at sunrise
  • Meditating for 2 hours
  • Journaling in perfect handwriting (lol)
  • Drinking herbal tea I couldn’t pronounce

Yeah… no.

Turns out, spiritual growth tips don’t need to look like a Pinterest board.

Sometimes it’s just:

  • Sitting quietly for 5 minutes
  • Not reacting immediately when someone annoys you
  • Taking a deep breath instead of spiraling

Simple ≠ ineffective.

In fact, simple is kinda the whole point.

3. Start a Daily “Pause” Habit

Not meditation. Don’t panic.

Just… a pause.

Every day, I try (try being the key word) to stop for a few minutes and check in with myself.

Questions like:

  • “Why am I feeling like this?”
  • “Am I overreacting… or is this valid?”
  • “Did I drink water today?” (important, honestly)

It’s like giving your brain a tiny reset button.

And no, I don’t do it perfectly. Sometimes my “pause” turns into scrolling memes. Progress, not perfection.

4. Journal Like No One’s Reading (Because No One Is)

I used to think journaling had to be… aesthetic.

Neat handwriting. Deep thoughts. Zero spelling mistakes.

Now?

It looks like a crime scene.

Random sentences like:

  • “Why do I feel weird today???”
  • “That conversation bothered me more than it should’ve”
  • “Also I need to buy eggs”

And somehow, in the middle of all that chaos, clarity shows up.

Writing helps you hear yourself.

And honestly? Half the time I didn’t even know what I was thinking until I wrote it down.

5. Be Okay With Being Triggered (Ugh, I Know)

This one annoyed me.

Because every time I got triggered—angry, defensive, insecure—I thought I was failing at spirituality.

Turns out… that’s the work.

Triggers are like little flashing signs:
“Hey, there’s something here you haven’t healed yet.”

Fun, right?

Not really. But useful.

Now when something sets me off, I try (again, try) to ask:
“Why did that hit so hard?”

Sometimes the answer is uncomfortable.

Sometimes I just go eat snacks instead.

Balance.

6. Protect Your Energy Like It’s Your Phone Battery

You wouldn’t let your phone drop to 1% all day.

But emotionally? We do that constantly.

People, social media, random negativity—it drains you.

I started being a little more intentional:

  • Saying no without over-explaining
  • Taking breaks from things that felt heavy
  • Muting conversations that stressed me out (bless that feature)

And wow… it made a difference.

Daily spiritual habits aren’t just about what you add—they’re also about what you stop tolerating.

7. Spend Time Alone (Even If It Feels Weird at First)

I used to avoid being alone.

Not in a dramatic way, just… always needed noise. Music, TV, something.

Silence felt uncomfortable.

Then one day I sat alone at a park (no headphones, no distractions), and it was… awkward.

Like, what do I even do with my thoughts??

But after a while, something shifted.

I started noticing things:

  • The way the light changed
  • Random thoughts I’d been ignoring
  • A weird sense of calm

It wasn’t magical. But it was real.

And honestly? We don’t give ourselves enough quiet space to just… exist.

8. Question Everything You’ve Been Told

This one gets tricky.

Because a lot of what we believe about life, success, happiness—it’s borrowed.

From family. Society. That one motivational video you watched at 1 AM.

At some point, I started asking:
“Do I actually believe this… or did I just inherit it?”

That question alone?

Game changer.

Spiritual growth isn’t about blindly following—it’s about discovering what’s true for you.

9. Practice Gratitude (But Like, Real Gratitude)

I used to write generic gratitude lists:
“I’m grateful for my family, my health, blah blah blah…”

It felt forced.

Now I try to be specific:

  • That random stranger who held the door
  • The way my coffee tasted extra good today
  • A moment where I didn’t overthink something

Tiny things.

But they hit different.

Because when you slow down enough to notice them, life stops feeling like a blur.

10. Accept That Growth Isn’t Linear (At All)

Some days I feel calm, centered, almost wise (lol, rare but it happens).

Other days?
I get annoyed over nothing. I forget every “lesson” I’ve learned.

And for a while, that frustrated me.

Like—shouldn’t I be better by now??

But that’s not how how to grow spiritually works.

It’s messy.
It loops.
It backtracks.

And that’s okay.

Actually… that’s normal.

A Random Thought (Because My Brain Won’t Stay on Track)

At one point, I thought spiritual growth would make me a completely different person.

Calmer. Wiser. Less chaotic.

But honestly?

I’m still me.

Just… slightly more aware.

And maybe that’s enough.

No fluff. Just human stuff.

Final-ish Thoughts (Not a Conclusion Because That Feels Too Formal)

If you’re trying to accelerate your spiritual growth this year, here’s the honest truth:

You don’t need to become someone else.

You don’t even need to do all 10 of these steps perfectly.

Just… start somewhere.

Messy journaling. Five minutes of silence. Questioning one belief.

That’s it.

And yeah, some days you’ll feel like you’re making progress.

Other days you’ll feel like you’re back at square one.

But you’re not.

You’re just… human.

And honestly?

That might be the most spiritual thing about you.
